With December in full swing, now is the time to soak up some of that good holiday cheer with local events and activities that are sure to get you in a festive mood. With everything from holiday craft workshops to annual YXE events that are always worth attending, Saskatoon truly has some incredible happenings to help make your holidays merry and bright.
Glow Gardens at Prairieland Park – 503 Ruth Street West

The Glow Gardens are a unique event across Canada, and this year they’re in Saskatoon for the first time ever. Running until Dec. 28, this event features tons of glistening, enchanting light displays, food and drink, a vendor market, a kid-friendly play centre, live entertainment and more. Be sure to get tickets early and bring your camera — the lights make a perfect photo backdrop.
Holiday workshop – multiple locations

The holidays are a great time for DIY projects, whether you’re looking to create a craft for your own home, or give a handmade gift this year. Check out a workshop with Hawthorn Floral Atelier and make your own gorgeous wreath, grinch tree or decorate cookies. Elf: the Musical at Persephone Theatre – 100 Spadina Crescent East

From Dec. 4 to Jan. 5, Persephone Theatre is hosting Elf: the Musical, which is based on the classic movie Elf. The musical features Saskatoon actor and singer Felix LeBlanc as Buddy the Elf, plus a locally-cast children’s chorus and a host of other talented Canadian musical theatre artists. Be sure to get there early, as the lobby will feature a candy shop where you can also buy the signature Elf stuffy.
Sleigh rides and Hot Chocolate at Champetre County – NW 20 Township 37 Range 1 W, St-Denis, SK

Just half an hour outside the city lies Champetre Country, a vacation farm that offers a true taste of all things western. Throughout December, they are hosting an old-fashioned holiday event, complete with sleigh rides, hot chocolate, a maze and a campfire. It’s a family-fun winter event, with both daytime and evening sleigh rides available.
Garden centres celebrate the season

Where can you go to get holiday gifts, home decor, Christmas trees and more? Garden centres of course! Check out Dutch Growers for home and lifestyle decor, plus their incredible fashion boutique where you’re sure to find a holiday outfit. Wilson’s Lifestyle Centre also features a wide range of holiday items, including ornaments, home decor and trees. If you’re looking for a live tree for your home this year or a stunning poinsettia, both Dutch Growers and Wilson’s will have you covered.
Eaton’s Once Upon A Christmas at the WDM – 2610 Lorne Ave

Eaton’s Once Upon A Christmas is an annual holiday favourite in Saskatoon, hosted each year since 1987 at the Western Development Museum. The display features a collection of holiday-themed scenes and figurines that were originally featured in the windows of Eaton’s Department Stores in Canada. The exhibit is on until Jan. 12 this year, so be sure to pay it a visit and take in some delightful holiday magic!
BHP Enchanted Forest at the Forestry Farm – 1903 Forestry Farm Park Drive

This annual event is on every evening until Jan. 6 and features stunning holiday light displays and scenes. It’s a drive-through event, so you can enjoy the twinkling lights from the comfort of your car, with hot chocolate or coffee in hand. If you prefer to brave the cold, on Jan. 4 there is a Light Walk Night, where you can walk through the displays at your own pace.
