Saskatoon in 24 hours: Great food, humble people, calming pace

I didn’t know much about Saskatoon before this trip. I knew that it was one of the biggest hubs of agriculture in Canada and that is pretty much it. A couple days before taking the flight, I opened Instagram and tried to find as many places as I could via the search section. I saved two coffee shops, an ice-cream parlour and some restaurants that I thought might be nice to try.

Saskatoon: The Surprise City

Saskatoon completely surprised us. We spent the first weekend of our summer exploring this incredibly diverse city, which totally surpassed all expectations. We’ll admit, we were a bit blind to what Saskatchewan has to offer as we’ve never been, but growing up in Alberta- figured it was similar, tons of prairies and farmland. We were completely wrong.

Neighbourhood Highlights: 8th Street

There’s no doubt that the most charming streets in Saskatoon are those built around pedestrians, with lots of small, unique, locally-owned shops. Let’s not, however, be too quick to forget about 8th street. We sometimes lose the charm and brush the whole thing off as parking lots and big box stores, but there are some incredible and defining businesses and landmarks on 8th Street that help make Saskatoon the great city it is.
